Who is it Suitable For?

This medicine is suitable for adults and children aged 12 years and over. It is intended for those suffering from dry, irritating night-time coughs that disrupt sleep.

 

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

Each 5ml of syrup contains:

  • Diphenhydramine hydrochloride 14mg – an antihistamine that reduces coughing and nasal secretions.
  • Dextromethorphan hydrobromide 6.5mg – a cough suppressant (antitussive).
  • Levomenthol 2mg – relieves congestion and helps breathing feel easier.

Other ingredients: sucrose, glucose, ethanol, glycerol, sodium citrate, sodium benzoate (E211), citric acid monohydrate, caramel (E150), saccharin sodium, raspberry flavouring, carbomer, Ponceau 4R (E124), benzyl alcohol, propylene glycol, and purified water.

 

How to Use / Dosage Instructions

Dosage by age group:

  • Adults and children 12 years and over: Two 5ml spoonfuls (10ml) at bedtime, followed by two 5ml spoonfuls every 6 hours as needed. Alternatively, two 5ml spoonfuls up to four times a day.
  • Children under 12 years: Not recommended.

How to administer:

  • For oral use only. Measure carefully using a medicine spoon or cup.
  • Do not exceed four doses in 24 hours.

Duration of use:

  • Take only as needed. Do not use continuously for more than a few days without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

 

Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, side effects may occur.

Common:

  • Drowsiness, dizziness, headache
  • Dry mouth, thickened mucus
  • Upset stomach, nausea

Uncommon/Rare:

  • Blurred vision, difficulty sleeping, tremor
  • Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of face or throat)
  • Hallucinations, irregular heartbeat, difficulty passing urine

If severe reactions occur, stop use and seek immediate medical attention.

 

Warnings and Precautions

  • Do not use if you are allergic to diphenhydramine, dextromethorphan, levomenthol, or any listed ingredients.
  • Avoid if you have lung disease, a cough with phlegm, or are taking certain antidepressants (MAOIs, SSRIs).
  • Do not give to children under 12 years.
  • Use with caution if you have asthma, bronchitis, liver or kidney problems, glaucoma, prostate problems, or epilepsy.
  • May cause dependence if misused. Use only as directed.

Pregnancy/Breastfeeding:
Not recommended. Speak to a doctor before use.

Driving or operating machinery:
This medicine may cause drowsiness. Do not drive or use machines if affected. Avoid alcohol.

 

Interactions with Other Medicines

Avoid use with:

  • Antidepressants (MAOIs, SSRIs, tricyclics)
  • Sedatives, sleeping tablets, tranquillisers
  • Antipsychotics, antihistamines, anticholinergic drugs
  • Strong painkillers (opioids)

Always check with a doctor or pharmacist before taking alongside other medicines.

Seek medical advice if:

  • Your cough lasts longer than 7 days or worsens
  • You develop fever, rash, or persistent headache
  • You experience hallucinations, rapid heartbeat, or difficulty breathing
  • You suspect an allergic reaction

 

Storage Information

  • Store below 30°C in the original container.
  • Keep out of sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use after expiry date.
