CalCough Infant Syrup is a soothing medicine that relieves dry, tickly coughs in children aged 3 months to 5 years. It contains glycerol to coat and calm the throat. Pleasant apple flavour.

Who is it Suitable For?

  • Suitable for babies from 3 months to children up to 5 years.
  • Not suitable for infants under 3 months.
  • Purchasing online is restricted to customers aged 16 years and over.

 

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

  • Active ingredient: Glycerol (0.75ml per 5ml dose).
  • Other ingredients: Purified water, maltitol liquid (E965), citric acid, hydroxyethylcellulose, sodium citrate, sodium benzoate.
  • Flavouring: Apple.

 

How to Use / Dosage Instructions

For oral use only. Always shake the bottle and use the supplied spoon.

  • Babies under 3 months: Do not use.
  • 3 months – 1 year: One 5ml spoonful.
  • 1 – 5 years: Two 5ml spoonfuls.

Frequency: Give the dose 3–4 times in 24 hours if needed.
Duration: Do not use for more than 3 days without medical advice.

If too much is taken, seek immediate medical help. If a dose is missed, do not double up—simply give the next scheduled dose.

 

Possible Side Effects

  • Generally well tolerated.
  • Rare: mild stomach upset or diarrhoea due to maltitol.
  • Very rare: allergic reaction such as rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing (seek urgent medical advice).

 

Warnings and Precautions

  • Do not use if your child is under 3 months or allergic to any ingredient.
  • Contains maltitol, which may cause a mild laxative effect and should be used with caution in children with sugar intolerances or diabetes.
  • If symptoms persist for more than 3 days, consult a doctor.

Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: Not relevant, as the product is intended for infants and children.
Driving and machinery: No effect.

 

Interactions with Other Medicines

  • No significant interactions are expected.
  • Always tell your pharmacist if your child is taking other medicines.

Seek medical advice if:

  • Your child’s cough persists beyond 3 days.
  • Symptoms worsen, or breathing difficulties occur.
  • An allergic reaction develops.
  • You are unsure whether the cough is linked to another condition such as asthma or infection.

 

Storage Information

  • Store below 25°C.
  • Keep the bottle tightly closed.
  • Keep out of sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use after the expiry date.
  • Return unused medicine to a pharmacy for safe disposal.
