What is Calpol Sugar Free Infant Suspension?

Calpol Sugar Free Infant Suspension Sachets contain paracetamol to relieve mild to moderate pain and reduce fever. The formulation is sugar-free, colour-free and presented in single-dose sachets for convenience when at home or travelling.

 

Who is it suitable for?

  • Children aged 2 months and over, following specific dosing instructions.
  • Adults and older children may also use the product if appropriate for their weight and dosing requirements.

Always follow age-specific dosing guidance.

 

Active Ingredients (per 5ml sachet)

  • Paracetamol 120 mg

Inactive ingredients: Maltitol liquid, xanthan gum, disodium phosphate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sodium benzoate (E211), purified water, strawberry flavour.

 

How to Use / Dosage Instructions

(Always read the leaflet; dosing varies by age.)

Infants 2–3 months:

  • 2.5 ml (half sachet) if needed for post-vaccination fever.
  • A second 2.5 ml dose may be given after 4–6 hours.
  • Do not give more than 2 doses in 24 hours.
  • Medical advice required if fever is not vaccine-related.

Babies 3–6 months:

  • 2.5 ml (half sachet) up to 4 times in 24 hours.

6–24 months:

  • 5 ml (one sachet) up to 4 times in 24 hours.

2–4 years:

  • 7.5 ml (1½ sachets) up to 4 times in 24 hours.

4–6 years:

  • 10 ml (two sachets) up to 4 times in 24 hours.

General rules:

  • Leave at least 4 hours between doses.
  • Do not exceed 4 doses in 24 hours.
  • Do not give for more than 3 days without seeking advice.

How to administer:
Tear open sachet and either pour directly into the child’s mouth or onto a spoon.

 

Duration of Use

Short-term only. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist for more than 3 days.

 

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects are uncommon with correct use, but may include:

  • Nausea
  • Stomach upset

Rare effects include:

  • Skin rash
  • Allergic reactions
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Blood disorders (very rare)

Stop using and seek urgent help if your child develops swelling, rash, wheezing or difficulty breathing.

  • Do not give with any other paracetamol-containing medicines.
  • Use caution in children with liver or kidney problems.
  • Contains maltitol; may cause mild bowel upset.
  • Consult a doctor if your child has chronic conditions or is taking long-term medicines.

  • Severe liver disease.

 

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

  • If fever occurs in a child under 3 months not related to vaccination.

 

Red Flags Requiring Immediate Help

  • Breathing difficulty
  • Rash suggestive of allergy
  • Persistent vomiting
  • Unresponsive or floppy child
  • Fever lasting more than 48 hours in babies under 6 months

 

How to Store

  • Store below 30°C.
  • Keep sachets in the carton.
  • Keep out of sight and reach of children.
