Description
Ingredients in Canesten Thrush Duo Oral Capsule & External Cream
- Oral Capsule (Fluconazole 150mg) – an antifungal medicine that treats the internal infection.
- External Cream (Clotrimazole 2% w/w) – a topical antifungal that relieves external symptoms like itching and soreness.
- Other ingredients in capsule: lactose monohydrate, maize starch, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate, gelatin, titanium dioxide (E171).
- Other ingredients in cream: benzyl alcohol, cetostearyl alcohol, polysorbate 60, sorbitan stearate, purified water.
Dosage & How to Use
- Adults aged 16 to 60 years:
- Take one fluconazole capsule orally with water, with or without food.
- Apply the clotrimazole cream thinly to the affected external area 2–3 times a day until symptoms resolve (usually within a few days).
- Do not use if you are under 16 or over 60 unless advised by a doctor.
Side Effects
While most people tolerate the treatment well, some may experience:
- Oral capsule side effects: headache, nausea, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, flatulence, rash.
- Cream side effects: burning, stinging, or redness at the site of application.
Stop use and seek medical advice if you experience swelling, difficulty breathing, or a severe skin reaction.
Warnings & Precautions
- Do not use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding unless advised by your doctor.
- Avoid using tampons, spermicides, or other vaginal products while using this treatment.
- This product is for vaginal thrush only and should not be used for other infections without a medical diagnosis.
- Avoid sexual intercourse while using the cream, as it may affect the latex in condoms and diaphragms.
- If symptoms persist beyond 7 days or return within 2 months, consult your GP or pharmacist.
Drug Interactions
- Fluconazole may interact with medications such as:
- Warfarin
- Phenytoin
- Rifampicin
- Certain diabetes medicines (e.g., glipizide)
- Oral contraceptives (although usually minor)
Let your pharmacist know if you’re taking any prescription, over-the-counter, or herbal medicines.
Additional Information
- Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C.
- Keep out of sight and reach of children.
- Do not repeat treatment more than twice in 6 months without medical advice.
