Simple Linctus Paediatric Sugar Free is a gentle cough remedy designed to soothe irritation in children. Sugar free, easy to administer, and suitable for ages 1–12, it provides relief for mild, non-specific cough.

Description

 

Who is it Suitable For?

  • Children aged 1 to 12 years with mild, non-specific cough.
  • Ideal for children who require a sugar-free formulation, particularly those with diabetes.
  • Not recommended for infants under 1 year unless directed by a doctor.

 

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

  • Citric acid monohydrate (125mg per 5ml) – the active soothing ingredient.
  • Other ingredients: glycerol, liquid sorbitol, sodium benzoate, purified water, and flavourings.

 

How to Use / Dosage Instructions

Dosage by age group:

  • Children 1–5 years: 5ml spoonful up to 4 times daily.
  • Children 6–12 years: 10ml (two 5ml spoonfuls) up to 4 times daily.

How often to give:

  • Leave at least 3 hours between doses.
  • Do not give more than 4 doses in 24 hours.

How to administer:

  • Oral liquid.
  • Use an oral syringe or medicine spoon for accuracy. Avoid household teaspoons.

Duration of use:

  • Use only for as long as symptoms persist.
  • If cough lasts more than 5 days, consult a doctor.

 

Possible Side Effects

  • Side effects are rare.
  • Some children may experience mild stomach upset or diarrhoea due to sorbitol.
  • Allergic reaction (rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing) is very rare – seek urgent medical help.

 

Warnings and Precautions

  • Do not use if your child is allergic to citric acid or other ingredients.
  • Not suitable for children with hereditary fructose intolerance.
  • Always use sugar-free versions in children where possible.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Not relevant for children; adults should seek medical advice before use.
  • Does not affect ability to drive or use machinery.

 

Interactions with Other Medicines

  • Can be used safely with paracetamol or ibuprofen.

Seek advice if:

  • Your child’s cough lasts more than 5 days.
  • There is wheezing, shortness of breath, or chest pain.
