Description
Ingredients
Each ellaOne tablet contains:
- Active ingredient: Ulipristal acetate 30mg
- Other ingredients: Lactose monohydrate, povidone, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate
Dosage & Directions
ellaOne is suitable for women of childbearing age, including adolescents. Take one tablet as soon as possible after unprotected sex, preferably within 24 hours for maximum effectiveness, but it can be taken up to 120 hours (5 days). Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food.
- If you vomit within three hours of taking ellaOne, take another tablet immediately.
- Do not take a second dose in the same menstrual cycle.
- Continue using regular contraception after taking ellaOne, as it does not provide ongoing protection.
Side Effects
Like all medicines, ellaOne may cause side effects. Common reactions include:
- Gastrointestinal issues: Nausea, stomach pain, vomiting
- Menstrual cycle changes: Delayed, early, or irregular periods
- Headache, dizziness, fatigue
- Breast tenderness, mood changes
If you experience severe abdominal pain after taking ellaOne, seek medical advice immediately as this could indicate an ectopic pregnancy.
Warnings & Precautions
- ellaOne is not an abortion pill and will not be effective if you are already pregnant.
- Do not use ellaOne if you have severe asthma treated with oral corticosteroids.
- If your period is more than 7 days late after taking ellaOne, take a pregnancy test.
- Not recommended for frequent use within the same cycle, as it may disrupt hormonal balance.
Drug Interactions
Certain medicines can reduce ellaOne’s effectiveness. Inform your pharmacist if you are taking:
- Epilepsy medicines: Phenytoin, carbamazepine
- Tuberculosis treatments: Rifampicin, rifabutin
- HIV medications: Ritonavir, efavirenz
- Herbal remedies: St John’s Wort
Avoid hormonal contraception for five days after taking ellaOne, as it may interfere with its function. Use a barrier method such as condoms in the meantime.
Who Should Not Take ellaOne?
- Women who are already pregnant
- Those with severe liver disease
- Individuals allergic to ulipristal acetate or any ingredients in the tablet
