Ingredients in Salactol Wart Paint
- Salicylic acid 16.7% w/w – a keratolytic agent that softens and removes the thickened skin
- Lactic acid 16.7% w/w – enhances the breakdown of the wart tissue
- Other ingredients: Flexible collodion, camphor, pyroxylin, ethanol
Dosage & How to Use
- Adults, children, and the elderly can use Salactol, but it is not recommended for children under 2 years of age.
- Apply once daily directly to the wart or verruca using the applicator brush provided.
- Soak the area in warm water for 2–3 minutes, dry thoroughly, and gently file the surface with an emery board or pumice stone before applying the paint.
- Allow the solution to dry and form a white film.
- Repeat daily until the wart or verruca has completely disappeared – this may take several weeks.
Side Effects
While Salactol is generally well tolerated, some users may experience:
- Mild irritation, redness, or soreness at the site of application
- Skin peeling or sensitivity around the treated area
- Allergic skin reactions (rare – discontinue use if severe reaction occurs)
Warnings & Precautions
- For external use only – avoid contact with eyes, mouth, mucous membranes, and broken or inflamed skin.
- Do not apply to healthy surrounding skin – protect with petroleum jelly if necessary.
- Not suitable for facial warts, genital warts, or moles.
- Diabetics or individuals with poor blood circulation should seek medical advice before use.
- Flammable – keep away from flames or sources of heat.
- Keep container tightly closed and store below 25°C.
Interactions
- No known significant drug interactions when used topically as directed.
- However, avoid using other topical wart treatments on the same area at the same time unless advised by a healthcare professional.

- Avoid spreading the virus by not sharing towels or footwear and covering the wart with a plaster if necessary.
