Who is it Suitable For?

Otrivine Child Nasal Drops are suitable for children aged 6 to 12 years. They are intended for short-term relief of nasal congestion due to colds, hay fever, or other forms of allergic rhinitis and sinusitis.

 

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

Each 1ml of solution contains 0.5mg of xylometazoline hydrochloride, the active ingredient that works as a decongestant by narrowing blood vessels in the nasal passages.
Other ingredients include: sodium chloride, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, disodium phosphate dodecahydrate, benzalkonium chloride (as preservative), and purified water.

 

How to Use / Dosage Instructions

  • Dosage by Age Group:
    • Children aged 6–12 years: One to two drops in each nostril, up to 2–3 times daily.
    • Do not exceed 3 applications in 24 hours.
  • How to Administer:
    Administer the drops nasally. Have the child tilt their head back slightly. Gently squeeze one or two drops into each nostril. Allow them to remain in that position briefly.
  • Duration of Use:
    Do not use for more than 5 consecutive days. Prolonged use may lead to rebound congestion.

 

Possible Side Effects

  • Common side effects:
    Temporary nasal irritation, dryness of the nose, or a mild burning sensation.
  • Rare side effects:
    Headache, nausea, palpitations, restlessness, or sleep disturbances. If symptoms persist or worsen, discontinue use and seek medical advice.

 

Warnings and Precautions

  • Do not use if:
    • Your child is allergic to xylometazoline or any of the ingredients.
    • They have had recent nasal surgery.
    • They suffer from narrow-angle glaucoma or chronic nasal inflammation with very dry nasal passages (rhinitis sicca).
  • Pregnancy & Breastfeeding:
    Not intended for adult use. If accidentally used by a breastfeeding or pregnant adult, seek advice from a healthcare professional.
  • Driving or Machinery:
    Not applicable as this product is for children and has no known effects on alertness.
  • Interactions with Other Medicines:
    Avoid use with other nasal decongestants or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Always consult a pharmacist if your child is taking other medicines.

 

Storage Information

  • Store below 25°C, out of direct sunlight.
  • Keep out of sight and reach of children.
  • Discard 28 days after opening.
