Who is it Suitable For?
Brolene Eye Drops are suitable for adults and children aged 2 years and over who suffer from minor eye infections, including conjunctivitis and sticky eyes. They are not suitable for infants under 2 years without medical advice.
Ingredients / Active Ingredients
- Active substance: Propamidine isetionate 0.1% w/v – an antibacterial agent that helps treat infections caused by bacteria.
- Other ingredients: Ammonium chloride, sodium chloride, benzalkonium chloride (preservative), sodium hydroxide, purified water.
How to Use / Dosage Instructions
- Adults and children over 2 years: Place 1–2 drops into the affected eye up to four times daily.
- How to administer: Wash hands thoroughly. Tilt the head back, pull down the lower eyelid, and instil the drops into the space between the eye and eyelid. Avoid touching the eye with the dropper tip.
- Duration of use: Use for up to 7 days. If symptoms persist, seek medical advice.
Possible Side Effects
Most people tolerate Brolene well, but possible side effects include:
- Common: Temporary stinging or burning sensation after application.
- Less common: Blurred vision immediately after use.
- Rare: Allergic reactions such as swelling, rash, or worsening irritation.
Stop using and consult a doctor if severe irritation or allergic reaction occurs.
Warnings and Precautions
- Do not use if you are allergic to propamidine or any other ingredients.
- Not recommended for children under 2 years unless advised by a doctor.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Should only be used on the advice of a healthcare professional.
- Contains benzalkonium chloride, which may cause eye irritation and discolour soft contact lenses. Avoid wearing contact lenses during treatment.
- Driving and machinery: Temporary blurred vision may occur after use. Do not drive or operate machinery until vision clears.
Interactions with Other Medicines
- If using other eye medications, leave at least 15 minutes between different eye preparations.
- No major systemic interactions reported.
