What are Calpol SixPlus Fast Melts?

Calpol SixPlus Fast Melts provide paracetamol in a melt-in-the-mouth tablet designed for children who prefer not to swallow tablets or take liquid medicines. They help relieve mild to moderate pain and reduce fever linked to colds, sore throats, headaches, flu and earache.

 

Who is it suitable for?

  • Suitable for children aged 6 years and over, adolescents and adults.
  • Not suitable for children under 6 years.

 

Active Ingredients (per tablet)

  • Paracetamol 250 mg

 

Inactive Ingredients include: Mannitol, crospovidone, magnesium stearate, aspartame (E951), strawberry flavouring, and other standard excipients. Contains aspartame, a source of phenylalanine.

 

How to Use / Dosage Instructions

Children aged 6–9 years

  • One tablet up to 4 times in 24 hours.

Children aged 9–12 years

  • Two tablets up to 4 times in 24 hours.

Children aged 12–16 years

  • Two to three tablets up to 4 times in 24 hours.

Adults and children over 16 years

  • Two to four tablets up to 4 times in 24 hours.

 

Administration:

  • Tablets dissolve on the tongue without water.
  • Leave at least 4 hours between doses.
  • Do not give more than 4 doses in 24 hours.
  • Do not exceed the stated dose.

 

Duration of Use

  • Do not use for more than 3 days without medical advice.

 

Possible Side Effects

Although uncommon, side effects may include:

  • Nausea, stomach discomfort.
  • Skin rash or itching.
  • Rare but serious allergic reactions (swelling, difficulty breathing).
  • Very rare blood disorders.

Seek urgent medical help if signs of allergy or breathing difficulty occur.

 

Warnings and Precautions

  • Do not use with any other paracetamol-containing products.
  • Contains aspartame: unsuitable for patients with phenylketonuria.
  • Use caution in liver or kidney disease; consult a pharmacist or doctor first.
  • Do not exceed the recommended dose.
  • If symptoms persist, seek medical advice.

 

Contraindications

  • Allergy to paracetamol or any ingredient.
  • Severe liver disease.
  • Phenylketonuria (due to aspartame content).

 

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

  • Paracetamol is generally considered safe when used as directed; however, this product is primarily intended for children. Adults who are pregnant or breastfeeding should seek medical advice before use.

 

Driving or Machinery

  • No expected impact on driving ability.

 

Interactions with Other Medicines

Check with a pharmacist or doctor if the patient is taking:

  • Other paracetamol-containing medicines.
  • Warfarin or other anticoagulants.
  • Medicines affecting the liver.
  • Carbamazepine, phenytoin or other enzyme-inducing drugs.

 

When to Consult a Pharmacist or Doctor

  • If pain or fever persists for more than 3 days.
  • If the child appears unusually drowsy, breathless or develops a rash.
  • If dehydration, stiff neck, persistent vomiting or breathing difficulty occur.

Red Flags

Stop use and seek urgent help if:

  • Severe allergic reaction.
  • Worsening fever.
  • Persistent severe headache.
  • Unusual bruising or bleeding.

 

How to Store

  • Store below 25°C.
  • Keep in the original packaging.
  • Keep out of sight and reach of children.
