What is Daktarin Intensiv Ketoconazole Cream?

Daktarin Intensiv Ketoconazole Cream is a topical antifungal medicine used to treat skin infections caused by dermatophytes and yeasts, including athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) and other fungal infections. It contains the active antifungal agent ketoconazole 2% w/w, which works by stopping the growth of fungi and relieving symptoms such as itching, scaling, and irritation.

 

Who is it suitable for?

  • Adults and adolescents (if recommended by a healthcare professional).
  • Not suitable if you are allergic to ketoconazole or any other ingredients in the cream.

 

Ingredients

Active Ingredient (per gram of cream):

  • Ketoconazole 20 mg (2% w/w)

Inactive Ingredients: Propylene glycol, stearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, polysorbate 60, sorbitan monostearate, isopropyl myristate, benzyl alcohol, purified water.

 

How to Use / Dosage Instructions

  • Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected area and surrounding skin once daily.
  • Gently rub in until absorbed.
  • Wash and dry the affected area thoroughly before application.
  • Treatment duration:
    • Athlete’s foot (tinea pedis): Usually 1 week.
    • Other fungal skin infections: Continue as directed, usually for 2–4 weeks.
  • Always complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve earlier.

 

Possible Side Effects

Daktarin Intensiv Cream is generally well tolerated, but some people may experience:

  • Mild skin irritation such as itching, redness, or burning sensation at the site of application.
  • Rare allergic reactions including rash, hives, or swelling.

Stop using and seek medical advice if you develop severe irritation, breathing difficulties, or swelling of the face and throat.

 

Warnings and Precautions

  • For external use only – do not swallow or apply inside the mouth, eyes, or vagina.
  • Discontinue if irritation becomes severe.
  • Do not cover the treated area with airtight dressings unless advised by a doctor.

 

Contraindications

  • Do not use if you are allergic to ketoconazole or any of the ingredients listed.

 

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

  • Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
  • If breastfeeding, do not apply the cream to the breast area.

 

Driving and Machinery

  • Daktarin Intensiv Cream does not affect your ability to drive or use machines.

 

Interactions with Other Medicines

  • Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are using other topical treatments on the same area.
  • Avoid using multiple antifungal creams at the same site unless instructed.

 

When to Consult a Pharmacist or Doctor

  • If symptoms do not improve within 7 days for athlete’s foot.

How to Store

  • Store below 25°C in the original carton.
  • Keep out of sight and reach of children.
