What is Midrid Migraine Relief Capsules?
Midrid Migraine Relief Capsules are a prescription-only analgesic medicine used for the treatment of migraine and throbbing headaches. It contains two active ingredients that act in different ways: paracetamol to relieve pain, and isometheptene mucate to help normalise widened blood vessels associated with migraine.
For best results, Midrid should be taken at the first warning signs of a migraine, which may help prevent progression to the headache stage. It is intended for short-term, symptom-based use only.

Ingredients / Active Ingredients
Active ingredients (per capsule):
- Paracetamol 325 mg
- Isometheptene mucate 65 mg
Inactive ingredients:
Microcrystalline cellulose, talc, colloidal silicon dioxide.
Capsule shell:
Gelatin, water, titanium dioxide (E171), erythrosine (E127), quinoline yellow (E104), indigotine (E132), printing ink.
How to Use / Dosage Instructions
Adults:
- Take two capsules as soon as migraine warning signs appear.
- If symptoms persist after one hour, take one capsule every hour, as needed.
- Maximum: five capsules in 12 hours.
If symptoms continue after 12 hours, seek medical advice before taking more.
How often to take it
- Taken only during a migraine attack.
- Do not exceed recommended dosing.
How to administer
- Oral capsules.
- Swallow whole with water.
Duration of use
- Short-term use for acute migraine episodes only.
- Not intended for continuous or long-term use.
Possible Side Effects
Some people may experience:
- Dizziness
- Tingling or cold sensation in fingers or toes
- Skin rash or allergic reaction (rare)
Very rarely, blood-related disorders may occur, causing unexplained bruising, tiredness, breathing difficulty, or sore throat.
Warnings and Precautions
- Contains paracetamol. Do not take with other paracetamol-containing medicines.
- Avoid alcohol on the same day as taking Midrid.
- Use with caution if you have diabetes, cardiovascular disease, thyroid disorders, liver damage related to alcohol use, or eating disorders.
Contraindications
Do not take Midrid if you:
- Are allergic to paracetamol, isometheptene mucate, or any ingredients
- Have severe liver, kidney, or heart disease
- Have severe high blood pressure or glaucoma
- Have porphyria
- Have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) within the last 14 days
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
- Do not take if pregnant or planning pregnancy.
- Do not take while breastfeeding in the first weeks after childbirth.
Driving or Machinery
- Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel tired, dizzy, or unwell after taking this medicine.
Interactions with Other Medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you take:
- Warfarin or other blood thinners
- Blood pressure medicines
- Digoxin or quinidine
- Antidepressants including tricyclics or MAOIs
- Anti-sickness medicines (metoclopramide, domperidone)
- Antiepileptics, rifampicin, St John’s Wort, or medicines affecting liver enzymes
- Other migraine medicines
When to Consult a Doctor or Pharmacist
- If migraines worsen or become more frequent
- If pain does not improve after treatment
- If you suspect an overdose
- If side effects become severe or unusual
Red Flags – Seek Urgent Medical Advice If:
- You take more than the recommended dose
- You develop severe allergic symptoms
- Headaches change pattern or occur with neurological symptoms
- Symptoms suggest liver damage, such as nausea, abdominal pain, or yellowing of the skin
How to Store
- Store below 25°C.
- Keep out of sight and reach of children.
- Do not use after the expiry date.
- Return unused capsules to a pharmacy for safe disposal.
