Description
What is Salatac Gel and what is it used for?
Salatac Gel is a clear, colourless topical gel for the treatment of warts, verrucas, corns and calluses. Warts and verrucas are caused by a virus and can spread if left untreated, while corns and calluses are thickened areas of skin caused by pressure and friction (often from footwear).
Because it forms a small white, water-resistant film, it doubles as a practical wart and verruca treatment without the hassle of plasters.
Who is it suitable for?
Salatac Gel is suitable for adults, children and the elderly.
Ingredients / Active Ingredients (exact strengths)
Active ingredients:
- Salicylic acid 12.0% w/w
- Lactic acid 4.0% w/w
Other ingredients:
Camphor, pyroxylin (contains isopropyl alcohol), ethanol, ethyl acetate.
How it works
This salicylic acid wart remover gel works by:
- Softening the hard skin growth so it’s easier to remove with an emery board/pumice stone.
- Helping to clear the virus responsible for warts and verrucas.
How to use / Dosage instructions
How often:
- Apply once daily, usually in the evening.
How to apply (warts, verrucas, corns, calluses):
- Soak the affected area in warm water for 2–3 minutes.
- Dry thoroughly (use your own towel for warts/verrucas to reduce spread).
- Apply a thin coating (1–2 drops) to the lesion only.
- Let it dry for a few minutes to form a small white, water-resistant patch.
- The next evening, peel/pick off the white patch before reapplying.
- Once weekly, gently rub the area with the emery board provided (or a pumice stone). Do not share tools if treating warts/verrucas.
How long to use:
- Treatment duration varies. Some clear quickly, but warts/verrucas may need up to 12 weeks.
- If not cleared after 12 weeks, ask a pharmacist or doctor.
If you forget a dose:
- Just continue when you remember (don’t double up).
Possible side effects (plain English)
While it’s working, you may notice:
- Mild tingling and/or mild tenderness on the treated area (usually temporary).
- Skin irritation if it spreads onto healthy skin.
- Rarely, a temporary skin blemish.
Stop using and seek advice if discomfort is unacceptable, irritation persists, or side effects become serious.

FAQs
Can I cover it with a plaster?
Usually no. Once dry, the gel forms a water-resistant film, so a plaster is not typically needed.
What if the white film won’t peel off?
Reapply gel directly over the film and let it dry. This thickens it and can make removal easier the next day.
Can I share the emery board or pumice stone?
No. If treating warts/verrucas, sharing can spread the infection. Use your own tools only.
Why does it sting slightly?
A mild tingling sensation can happen while the acids soften the skin. If it becomes painful or persistent, stop and seek advice.
Can I use it on broken skin?
No. Keep it away from cuts, grazes and broken skin to reduce irritation and harm.
