Description
Who is it suitable for?
Sando-K Effervescent Tablets are suitable for adults and children aged 6 years and over who require potassium supplementation to prevent or treat hypokalaemia (low potassium levels). This may include individuals taking certain diuretics or those with conditions that cause excessive potassium loss.
Ingredients / Active Ingredients
Each effervescent tablet contains the active substances:
- Potassium bicarbonate 1.65g
- Potassium chloride 1.5g
This equates to a total of 12mmol of potassium per tablet.
Other ingredients include sodium bicarbonate, tartaric acid, citric acid, and saccharin sodium.
How to Use / Dosage Instructions
Dosage by Age Group
- Adults: 2 to 3 tablets daily, in divided doses.
- Children aged 6 years and over: Dosage is usually adjusted by a doctor based on weight and clinical need.
How often to take it
Usually taken two or three times a day as prescribed.
How to administer
Dissolve one tablet completely in a glass of water before taking. Administer orally after meals to reduce stomach upset.
Duration of use
Use as long as your doctor advises, based on blood potassium levels.

Common side effects may include:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Mild stomach discomfort
Rare but serious side effects include:
- Muscle weakness
- Irregular heartbeat

- Are allergic to any of the ingredients
- Have high potassium levels (hyperkalaemia)
- Suffer from severe kidney disease

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding:
Consult your doctor before using during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It should only be used if clearly needed and under medical supervision.
Driving and machinery:
Sando-K is unlikely to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery, but if you feel weak or unwell, avoid these activities.
Interactions with Other Medicines
Sando-K may interact with:
- ACE inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor blockers
- Potassium-sparing diuretics
- Certain heart medications (e.g. digoxin)
- NSAIDs like ibuprofen
Always inform your pharmacist or doctor if you’re taking other medications.

Store below 25°C, in a dry place. Keep the tube tightly closed.
