Who is Vicks First Defence Nasal Spray suitable for?

Vicks First Defence Nasal Spray is suitable for adults and children aged 12 years and over who want to reduce the likelihood of a full-blown cold developing. It is ideal for use at the first signs of a cold such as a sore throat, sneezing, or a blocked nose.

 

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

Active substance:

  • Iota-Carrageenan – a virus-blocking ingredient
  • Sodium chloride – helps restore nasal moisture

Other ingredients include:
Disodium phosphate dodecahydrate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, phenethyl alcohol, polysorbate 80, menthol, water for injections.

 

How to Use / Dosage Instructions

Dosage by age group:

  • Adults and children aged 12 years and over: 2-3 sprays per nostril

How often to take it:

  • Use up to 4 times daily, ideally every 4 hours
  • Begin at the first sign of a cold and continue for 2-3 days

How to administer:

  • Shake the bottle well before use
  • Insert the nozzle into one nostril, close the other, and spray while inhaling gently
  • Repeat for the other nostril

Duration of use:

  • Use for a maximum of 7 days. Do not use for longer without medical advice.

 

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

  • Temporary stinging or burning sensation in the nose
  • Sneezing
  • Runny nose

Rare side effects may include:

  • Nosebleeds
  • Irritation or dryness in the nasal passages

Seek medical attention if symptoms persist or worsen.

Do not use Vicks First Defence Nasal Spray if you:

  • Are allergic to any of the ingredients
  • Have had recent nasal surgery or injury
  • Suffer from severe nasal congestion not responsive to sprays

Driving or operating machinery:

  • Does not affect ability to drive or use machines.

  • Store in an upright position at room temperature (below 25°C)
  • Keep out of sight and reach of children

  • Do not use after the expiry date on the packaging
